True Biblical Prosperity
True Biblical Prosperity
Main Idea
True biblical prosperity arrives from a lifestyle of obedience to God’s Holy Writ. The Christian should submit himself to the biblical standard of meditating on Word, thereby enhancing His knowledge of the Holy One and advancing in His walk with the Lord Jesus Christ.
Scripture Text Discussion
Psalm 1:1-3: How blessed is the man who does not walk in the counsel of the wicked, Nor stand in the path of sinners, Nor sit in the seat of scoffers! But his delight is in the law of the LORD, And in His law he meditates day and night. He will be like a tree firmly planted by streams of water, Which yields its fruit in its season And its leaf does not wither; And in whatever he does, he prosper.
In observation with the wicked man, the righteous man does not walk in the counsel of the ungodly. This world has many suggestions of what each of us should do to solve our problems. They judge by the outward appearance of what they think should happen in our situation. It is amazing how canonicity of the scriptures is only by God’s gracious hand putting together the biblical text. Look back at Job 42:7 and you will read these words.
And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words unto Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.
Job’s so called buddies were rebuked by the Lord for their unwise counsel; then the Lord inspires the text of Psalm 1 to say blessed is the man who doesn’t walk in the counsel of the ungodly. This great connection can lead the believer to ask: How do I walk? How do I stand? How do I not sit? The answer is seen in verse 2 with the righteous of one meditating on the Word of God. Meditate is transliterated hagah – to murmur or speak to oneself in a low voice, to mediatate on any thing. The righteous man will accomplish this by God’s power in Him. The believer conforms his thought processes to think on precepts which are Godly and straight from God’s Word. Doesn’t matter the occasion, this is how the believer lives. And what he meditates on will come out of his lips. Listen:
For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. Therefore is my spirit overwhelmed within me; my heart within me is desolate. I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands. (Psalms 143:3-5)
The heart of the righteous studieth to answer: but the mouth of the wicked poureth out evil things. (Proverbs 15:28)
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things [are] honest, whatsoever things [are] just, whatsoever things [are] pure, whatsoever things [are] lovely, whatsoever things [are] of good report; if [there be] any virtue, and if [there
be] any praise, think on these things. (Philippians 4:8)
True prosperity progresses from meditating, constantly thinking and applying the Word of God. Tsalach is used for the word ‘prosper’ which means to make prosper or to bring to success. The righteous man observes his complete focus on God’s Word. He has to think about it, pray about it; meditating day and night on God’s Word to only see the Lord will prosper him. The true biblical Christian will prosper. Why? The bible says it:
Joshua 1:8: “This book of the law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate on it day and night, so that you may be careful to do according to all that is written in it; for then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have success.
Sounds like a true promise does it not?. It is one; a promise saturated in losing everything you once valued in the world. Unfortunately, I wonder sometimes if this is the deterrent of so many. Loosing things we loved to gain Jesus Christ is true biblical prosperity. With the onslaught of false teachers as well, the true prosperity Gospel is being attacked in attempt to universally sweep losing all for Christ under the rug. But God, will cause the believer in Jesus to see these graces of losing everything; only to truly prosper. Listen:
But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ. Yea doubtless, and I count all things [but] loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them [but] dung, that I may win Christ, And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith: That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death; If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead. Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus. Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but [this] one thing [I do], forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before, I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. (Philippians 3:7-14)
What beauty, what glory, to meditate on the wonders of God and truly be set free. It will cost you something, but it is the best cost anyone could ever grab a hold of. Meditate on the Word, day and night. Think about Him, and you will see that your life in Jesus Christ will prosper. A TRUE BLUE CHRISTIAN PROSPERS IN THE WORD OF GOD, AS HE KNOWS GOD DAILY THROUGH HIS WORD AND MEDITATION ON IT. God bless my beloved, prosper in Christ by meditating on His Word.
Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her. (Luke 10:38-42)

Hey Karsten,
Good post. It’s been on my mind for a while to make a tract that I could hand out at “prosperity” events, which happen from time to time here in NC. This is a good start to one….!
The thing that blows my mind sometimes is that there really aren’t any biblical figures in whom the “prosperity” gospel is demonstrated. Jesus himself was not earthly rich, nor were his disciples. So what does it say about your “gospel” when the people whom you think taught it, had no earthly riches to speak of? But for minds set on earthly things (which, unfortunately, would include me on more occasions than I care to admit), we don’t want to hear that.
In Christ
Tom
I definitely think you should make that tract if the Lord is leading you to do that. Some of the prosperity people may argue with Abraham because the Lord gave him much land etc. They use the text of Abraham tithing as one to support there greedy views of scripture. But Abraham was never told by God to give a tenth. He gave cheerfully.
I have watched the WoF and prosperity people destroy people’s lives. It is easy to become angry; and I think righteously we can be, but we must share the truths of scripture the way the scripture says to share. Thanks for the comment brother, how are you and the family doing?
