5 Reasons Why People Follow After False Teachings And False Teachers
This article is taking a look at the reasons why people are so prone to following false teachers and their false teachings. It also tells how one can avoid the apostasy of false teachers and their heresies.
1. Ignorance. This is by far the main reason why there are so many people who adhere to false teachings and flock to see those who propagate them — they really don’t know the bible for themselves. So, rather than spending time getting intimately acquainted with the word of God, they lay all the responsibility on whichever false teacher they follow to teach them the word and to be the mouth piece of God unto them.
2. They have itching ears. In 2 Timothy 2: 2, the Apostle Paul warns that the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; and they shall turn away their ears from the truth and be turned unto fables. This scripture makes it very clear that persons who have itching ear will only want to her teachings that satisfy their lust. We see so many examples of this in the Church today. People only want to hear about how much God is going to bless them and open doors for them. They don’t want to hear a humbling message such as on the subject of repentance preached to them.
3. They have no love for the truth. The truth is never always comforting, as it has a way of deflating egos and will bring correction. So, most people who like to remain in their comfort zone and do not want to be confronted about their sins simply turn their ears away from hearing the truth. In 2 Thessalonians 2, Paul wrote: for this cause God shall also send them strong delusion, so that they will believe a lie and be damned because they receive not the love of the truth. Therefore, as believers in Christ, it is important that we are of humble minds so we do not reject truth and correction, or pick and choose only the sections of the bible that is only suitable to us. If we turn away our ears from the truth, we will fall for the strong delusion which Paul said God will send in the last days.
4. The elevation of man on a pedestal. It is always surprising to hear Christians say things like, careful what you say about the man/woman of God! Touch not the Lord’s anointing! All of this just goes to show the elevated level they have placed a mere human, in so much so that in their eyes this person can do no wrong. A matter of fact, Jesus is THE anointed one. All those who are saved are his anointed, as the same anointing dwells in us all, according to 1 John 2:27. There is no special class of God’s anointed servants. This practice of elevating man higher than what God intended is nothing short of idolatry, as Jesus is supposed to be the only mediator between God and man; and he is the only one that is above reproach.
5. They are of the same mind as the false teacher they follow. The bible asks — can two walk together less they agree? The people who flock to hear false teachings and false teachers are of the same mind as them — they are often just as much lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. 2 Peter 2 tells us that many shall follow the pernicious ways of the false teachers, who are motivated by covetousness, so thus they also appeal to the lust and covetousness of their followers, who with smooth words they continuously make merchandise of.
If people will only get back to having a love for the unadulterated word of God and put the Lord first in their lives, the mouth of many false teachers would be stopped, and false teaching would not be so rampant in the church in these last days. However, the Lord did warn us in Matthew 24, that these things should occur in the last days. This is why he said we are to take heed that no man deceives us. Therefore, the responsibility is upon us to be solid in his word while humbly drawing closer to him, so we can avoid the deceptions of false teachings and false teachers.
