WALKING IN THE WAY BY FEARING THE LORD

Blessed [is] every one that feareth the LORD; that walketh in his ways. For thou shalt eat the labour of thine hands: happy [shalt] thou [be], and [it shall be] well with thee. Thy wife [shall be] as a fruitful vine by the sides of thine house: thy children like olive plants round about thy table. Behold, that thus shall the man be blessed that feareth the LORD. The LORD shall bless thee out of Zion: and thou shalt see the good of Jerusalem all the days of thy life. Yea, thou shalt see thy children’s children, [and] peace upon Israel. (Psalms 128:1-6)

Main Idea:

The truest joy a Christian can have is walking in the ways of Christ is through a biblical reverential fear of the Lord.

Discussion:

One of the hardest sins that I deal with in my life is pride. I think I know everything; sometimes taking that to the point of knowing more than others. A friend of mine said I dont know a person, who doesnt struggle with pride Even so, it is so ugly to me, yet I struggle with this. This battle seems to steal away the joy of the Lord. I find myself often asking the question, What way can I walk in joy and not battle in my pride; or in my sin?

This Psalm 128 gives the solution. I must reverence the Lord Jesus Christ in my walk. I would understand greatly the protection and keeping power of God around the believer and be able to give to the Lord the struggles with pride. Listen to what the scripture says:

The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. O taste and see that the LORD [is] good: blessed [is] the man [that] trusteth in him. O fear the LORD, ye his saints: for [there is] no want to them that fear him. The young lions do lack, and suffer hunger: but they that seek the LORD shall not want any good [thing]. (Psalms 34:7-10)

ירא yare’ means to fearing the Lord with reverence. This is to be afraid, fearing the Lord. Do I live like this daily? Oh how it makes us ponder on why we should consistently walk in reverence to our Christ; fearing Him as LORD. That is what the blessed man does. He walks in reverence to his God. And with that, nothing can keep him from enjoying the wonderful benefits we see listed in the Psalm 128. Isnt that awesome? Is that not wonderful; if so walk in fear of Him who created you?

Praise ye the LORD. Blessed [is] the man [that] feareth the LORD, [that] delighteth greatly in his commandments. (Psalms 112:1)

ALEPH. Blessed [are] the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD. Blessed [are] they that keep his testimonies, [and that] seek him with the whole heart. They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways. Thou hast commanded [us] to keep thy precepts diligently. O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes! Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments. I will praise thee with uprightness of heart, when I shall have learned thy righteous judgments. I will keep thy statutes: O forsake me not utterly. (Psalms 119:1-8)

And I will give them one heart, and one way, that they may fear me for ever, for the good of them, and of their children after them: And I will make an everlasting covenant with them, that I will not turn away from them, to do them good; but I will put my fear in their hearts, that they shall not depart from me. (Jeremiah 32:39-40)

Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: (Hebrews 12:28)
